How to Prepare for 2010 Boston Marathon
Last fall after finishing NYC Marathon, I concluded 2 things. One, I didn’t do my training runs in fast enough pace and, two, I didn’t run the “long” runs long enough. I considered 14 miles as an adequate distance for a long run.
So, learning from these 2 mistakes I am determined not to repeat them. I will concentrate on the speed of all training runs and I will consider 18 miles as a starting distance for a long run. The training for Boston Marathon which takes place in mid April, represents another issue—the weather. It’s harder to get motivated to run when it is 22° outside and the slopes of ski resorts are covered by fresh snow. And it was natural snow this winter. As we ski every Saturday, I guess the ski season effectively shortens my marathon training program to about 7 weeks from the recommended 16 weeks. Nevertheless, I want to stay in the time range of my 2009 NYC Marathon result, because I was maintaining better running habit during this winter than previous years. I am not beginning from zero. I hope.
