OLL Malverne Home Meet
On Sunday, May 17, the OLL Malverne CYO track team hosted 15 parishes at our home meet. It was a record number of teams in my CYO coaching career. We started on the clock at 9 a.m. and were only 10 minutes behind the tentative schedule when we finished the morning part of the event—grades K–3.
Increased number of guests and hot weather made few volunteers to go out and supply additional water. In general, the parents/volunteers did an excellent job at all assigned tasks. The event requires a teamwork. Thank you volunteers!
The afternoon program started with 800m run, followed by relays. The initial relays experienced some hiccups that had to be addressed before we could resume again. By canceling the dashes that are usually run at the end of the event, we were able to finish our home meet shortly after 4 o’clock. Overall, one would not say there was a double of the teams we normally host. That smooth the event ran.
The home meet always means that the track season is winding down. We’ll participate in regional qualifiers on May 21st and 26th, respectively, and attend a few more meets (May 23rd, June 6th). In June, we’ll have the team BBQ and open registration for the cross country program that runs through the summer till October.
Due to the hectic schedule, the video clip is very short and objects in pictures are “very static.” If you offer yours, I’ll be glad to add them.
