CYO Nassau-Suffolk Track & Field Championship at Mitchel Field
CYO Track & Field Championship
The event took place at the Mitchel field on June 14th. Boys and girls of grades 4–8 who qualified gathered on Thursday evening to compete against their peers from both, Nassau and Suffolk counties. Our OLL Malverne track team was represented by 18 boys and 14 girls participating in relays and several members also participated in individual disciplines—runs and long jump.
The event started by the long jump competition in which the OLL Malverne had 4 jumpers, followed by the 1-mile run in which our team had 4 runners. Their time of 5:45 (7th grade boy) and 6:45 (5th grade girl) deserve respect.
The relay competition was fierce. Our teams that usually place in the first or second positions, were placing here 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Though, two strongest OLL Malverne track teams—4th grade boys and girls—maintained their overall dominance also in this CYO Nassau-Suffolk track & field championship. The table below shows breakdown of placements, including relays and some individual disciplines. Nevertheless, everybody who competed that evening at the event deserved to be called a great runner and great teammate, because it takes 4 to create a relay team.
Placement | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
Count | 6 | 5 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 2 |
The championship being officially a “timed event” is part of a database in which the participants build their record.
