Holy Spirit/St. Anne’s CYO Track Meet
On Saturday, May 12, we gathered in New Hyde Park to participate in one of the CYO Nassau/Suffolk track meets for kids. The organizers, Holy Spirit and St. Anne’s, didn’t have their task easy, as they had to reserve 2 locations, the Tully park for the morning session and the Memorial high school for the afternoon sessions. Fortunately, both tracks are located across the street from each other.
I didn’t participate in the morning program. So, if somebody wants to express their own opinion about it in this post, contact me. The afternoon program was well organized and ran on time. There were 9 school teams participating in the event. The OLL Malverne track team was represented by 6 teams of 4th graders, 2 teams of 5th, 1 team of 6th, and 2 teams of 7th graders. They ran total of 29 relay races. The program started with 1 mile run where the OLL Malverne had 3 girls (Liz, Kelly, and Kate) and 4 boys (Bobby, Patrick M., Thomas, and Patrick G.). Then the program continued with 300m medley, 400m relay, 400m medley, 800m medley, and ended with 400m, 100m, 200m, 800m dashes.
As there were many coaches present at the event, I had time to record the OLL Malverne teams’ placements. Out of 29 races, our relay teams took 1st place 11 times. The 4th graders are definitely our strength. The following table shows the breakdown of how our teams placed at this CYO track meet.
Placement | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
Count | 11 | 8 | 2 | 6 | 2 |
The table doesn’t account for the 1-mile and dash races.
