2010 CYO Nassau-Suffolk Track & Field Finals at Mitchel Field
The highly anticipated track meets on June 17 for grades 4–8 and K–3 on June 16 took place without interruptions. Although, both days were overcast, it didn’t rain. Last year the meet for higher grades was postponed twice and didn’t take place until August. On Wednesday, a mother strolling on the track during a race interfered with 2 runners. So on Thursday, the organizers were diligently chasing parents and coaches off the track. As they should do at all track meets.
I don’t have an exact count of medals, but our OLL teams did pretty well. It was exciting to watch, as the meet was gathering the top CYO “crème” of both counties. We had a very successful training season with only minimum number of cancellations due to weather, school, or church obligations. I did notice one common aspect during higher grades races, though. Our runners were running out of juices on 200 m and longer distances. Evidently, our training system of running 2 groups on opposite stretches of the track doesn’t offer much benefit to the group of older kids. We will need to find a way to train 200, 300, and 400 meter distances.
The Nassau/Suffolk Finals closed the Spring track and field competitive part of the season. There are no more practices. Although, I spend many hours jogging on the track during the summer. If you want to join me personally, or send your wall climber, you are welcome to drop me a message. Our attention is now concentrated on the virtual end of the entire season, the BBQ feast on Tuesday, June 22. Enjoy and download the photos of your interest, as I take all the galleries off the site.
